Umdah Academy for Education, Art & Culture- Specially for Slum Children& Women.

It was started on 15^th August 2015forslum children to give them education & to make them educated. Children go to MCD School but they don’t have any interest in studies. They are going to school just because of mid-day meal.

We have started dance & music classes for these children in order to take out their hidden skills. We came to know that they have interest in sports also but due to lack of facilities they are not getting a chance to take part in games. They have lack of resources, but not skills.Time to time, we also distribute foods, clothes, drawing kits to these children to make them engaged in learning.

The living condition of the locals is very bad. There is no clean water, no toilets, and shortage of electricity. Limited facilities are there.The area is very backward.

Maximum no. of women in the slum area is daily wager. Because of illiteracy they have to struggle day by day in order to earn their bread & butter.By looking all this, we opened this centre because there was a need of taking such initiative for the betterment of underprivileged section. We provide vocational trainings, awareness lecture to improve their living standard and dignity of a women and also aware the need & value of education for betterment of life of their children.

Aims & Objectives

• To spread education to underprivileged section of the society so that they too can walk confidently.
• To take out their hidden talents such as art & craft, sports and other interest& to promote them in the mainstream level.
• To promote moral and ethical values in children through education. 
• To give them support in using their potential and show their talents so that they can be an inspiration for other slum children.
• To create interest in learning through demonstration method such as storytelling, performing an activity, assigning task to groups and so on.
• To upgrade the living condition of the locals of slum belt.
• To improve the quality of life of these people by providing access to clean water, improved sanitation, working towards healthcare & so on.
• To eradicate social evils from Jhuggi area.
• Development of weaker sections and needy persons.
• To explore future opportunities to weaker women through vocational courses such as cutting & tailoring, beauty culture, cooking etc.
• To get them out of that poverty line & to make them feel their life easy & better like normal people.
• To make efforts for the overall development of the Society.

Expansion of Umdah Academy (extension centres):

Successful running of Umdah academy after support of Sonalika CSR Imitative . People expect from Delhi Police Library to extend their educational program specially nearby slum areas, so that we started extension centre of Umdah Academy in Tughlakabad slum area from 2018, from our own budget to provide more educational support to the school going slum children.

We successfully run this centre from last 4 year. More than 400 slum children are benefitted from this center.

Future Target

• To make these slum children educated & self-dependent by giving them quality education.
• To make each child an example/inspiration for other slum children.
• To connect with the main stream of education and normal system of life.
• Try to come out from the slum and live their life as normal children.
• To promote their talents in the mainstream by giving them a chance of proving their potential.
• To eradicate illiteracy, hunger, diseases as well as child labour from this slum belt.
• To create dignity, ownership and self-sufficiency in these people.
• To help the women capable in making their life better by adding value in their work.
• To work towards maintaining social harmony among them.
